As the coach at Old Westbury College, Lou Bernardi led his baseball team to incredible achievements. In 2013, they ranked second in the Skyline Conference with a remarkable 3.84 ERA and ranked 20th in NCAA for strikeouts per nine innings. In 2014, the team achieved a stellar 12-4 record in the conference, setting a program record with 326 strikeouts and ranking fourth in the nation for strikeouts per nine innings. The success continued in 2015 with a 10-4 conference record, culminating in another Skyline Championship title. Lou Bernardi's coaching expertise played a pivotal role in guiding the team to three consecutive Skyline Conference Championship games, eventually winning the conference title in 2015. Under his guidance, numerous pitchers earned prestigious honors, including ten Skyline Pitcher of the Week awards, two National Pitcher of the Week awards, and four pitchers signing professional contracts.

During his coaching tenure at LIU Post, Lou Bernardi made a significant impact. In 2016, he guided the team to a commendable 3.56 ERA, contributing to their impressive record of 38-16. The Pioneers' outstanding performance that year marked their highest number of wins since 2012, a testament to Lou's coaching prowess and dedication to the team's success.

During his coaching years at Iona, Lou Bernardi achieved remarkable success. In 2017, he led the team to a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship, and under his guidance, the team's ERA significantly improved to 4.27, over two points lower than the previous year's 6.45 ERA. Lou's addition to the coaching staff resulted in a record-setting achievement, as Iona achieved the lowest ERA in school history. In 2018, he coached the team to their third recorded no-hitter and a 5.39 ERA. Throughout his tenure, Bernardi's coaching prowess propelled Iona to become Conference finalists in 2017 and achieve the lowest recorded ERA in school history to this day. Additionally, he played an instrumental role as the pitching coach when Iona recorded their third no-hitter in school history in 2018. Lou's outstanding coaching abilities and dedication have left a lasting impact on Iona's baseball program.

Throughout his ongoing coaching career at USMMA, Lou Bernardi has consistently made a remarkable impact on the team's pitching staff. In 2019, his coaching prowess led to a commendable 3.54 ERA, setting the foundation for future successes. Despite the challenges of the 2020 Covid-impacted season, Bernardi's dedication to developing and mentoring players remained unwavering. In 2021, his coaching expertise shone through, with the pitching staff achieving an impressive 3.00 ERA and securing the team's first-ever Skyline Conference Championship. Although facing fluctuations in subsequent years, with a 4.79 ERA in 2022 and a 4.22 ERA in 2023, Bernardi's commitment to cultivating talent and striving for excellence persisted. His invaluable contributions have resulted in some of the lowest ERA years in USMMA history, and he continues to make a profound impact in shaping the future of players at USMMA.
